Norwegian Jigsaw Puzzle Championship 2027
Competition rules for the Norwegian Championship in Jigsaw Puzzles
To be eligible for the title Norwegian Champion the contestant must be a Norwegian citizen or have lived in Norway for 5 years. The Norwegian Federation can choose to let people from other nations to compete in the championship unofficially.
There is no age restrictions to compete in the championship but children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
For the individuell JR competition there is no lower age limit and the max age is 13 years old. People 14 years or older will compete in the regular individuell contest.
During the individuell JR contest there will be an extra chair for an adult to sit by the child. The adult can sit there as support. The adult can help open the Ravensburger bag and the plastic bag inside. They can help signalize that the child is close to finishing to get the attention of one of the judges. They cannot help with the actual puzzle.
All contestants in each competition will be puzzling the same puzzle within the given time.
Different motives will be used in the different contests. (Individuell, individuell JR, pairs and teams)
All tables will be marked with a number and the contestants name.
The image of the puzzle will be unknown for all those competing until the competition starts.
When the competition is over the contestant are allowed to take their puzzle with them, along with their name sign.
The contestants will open the puzzle at the start signal.
The contestant, pair or team that have assembled their puzzle the fastest has won the competition.
The following contestants will be placed based on their finishing time. If you do not finish your puzzle you will be
placed based on how many puzzles pieces you have put together. Here we will only count groups of 3 and more.
When the contestant/pairs/team are getting close to finishing one person must raise their hand to signal to the
judges so they can take note of the finishing time. The finish time will be written down on the contestants time card.
It will then be handed in to the secretaries so they can log the time.
After a judge has recorded your finish time you must take your belongings and clear out calmly from the competition area.
If a piece is missing, the participant must call stop/time, etc. when the penultimate piece is placed.
The judge notes the time. No penalty second is given if the piece is completely missing.
If, however, the piece was misplaced, e.g. in the plastic bag or on the floor, there will be a 5-second penalty.
Contestants that have finished their puzzle in time but at control its discovered that pieces have been put in incorrectly,
the entry will be changed to not finished the competition.
When the time is up each contestant that haven’t finished need to take the remaining pieces and put them into piles of 10 pieces so that a judge can easily count over the number of pieces. The judge will than take note of this on the contestants time card and hand it in to the secretaries to log the result.
When the judge has taken the time card the contestant may leave the competition area.
Only contestants, judges and other authorized personal may enter the competition during an ongoing competition.
Only the given table surface can be used to assemble the puzzle.
It’s not allowed to bring anything that adjusts the tables height or shape.
It is allowed to bring sorting trays, cardboard or similar items to help sort pieces but there is a max of 4 and they can not be bigger than A3. You can also use the puzzle box itself.
It is allowed to use a support to hold up the puzzle box so that it’ll be easier to see the picture of the puzzle easier during the competition.
It is not allowed to disturb other contestants during the competition.
Failure to follow this rule can lead to being asked to leave and you will not get to finish your puzzle.
It is allowed to bring and use headphones during the competition as long as it doesn’t disturb other contestants.
It’s up to each contestant to make sure you hear any potential announcements from the judges/speakers.
It is not allowed to bring or use any printed, digital og any other outline that show printing patterns for puzzles.
It is not allowed to bring and use any extra lighting. It is now allowed to get any help from anyone else during the competition.
Contestants that don’t show up for the competition are not entitled to any compensation or refund.
Any event not covered by the rules will be handled by the NPF judges on site.
Failure to follow the competition rules will lead to a warning or disqualification.
The judges decision is final and not up for debate.
Qualification rules individual final
The top 50 participants from each semifinal who are Norwegian citizens or have lived in Norway continuously for five years advance to the final.
In addition, up to 5 participants from each semifinal who do not meet the requirements to become Norwegian champion may advance to the final. International participants must also place higher than the lowest-ranked Norwegian participant who advances to the final.

Through your participation in the championship you accept that your name, town, country and age can be published in:
Participants list.
The result list after the competition that will be posted on the World Jigsaw Puzzle Federation (WJPF) and NPF’s websites, Social media and other publications.
Participation also gives the NPF right to use any photos, videos, and other material that the contestant pictured in.
All photo media, sound, or text material published by the NPF’s sites are copyrighted to NPF unless otherwise is stated in the post.
NPF and any other potential hosts are not responsible for the contestants private belongings during the championship
If cancellations or postponed events happen that are outside of NPF control the orginazation are not responsible for any costs the contestant may have put down, along with the fee to enter the competition.
The board members participation
NPF’s board members will also be competing in the Norwegian Championship.
To insure that the integrity of the competition is uphold the board have taken these steps:
The contact with Ravensburger regarding which puzzles will be used in the competition will be done through a third party so that no participant, including the board members, will have seen the puzzles.
The third party person with the responsibility of the puzzle will receive the puzzles and prep them for the competition.
The third party will not be competing in the championship.
